Our data
Sources
- SEC Investment Adviser Public Disclosure (IAPD): advisor registrations, employment history, exams and disclosures, refreshed at least every 24 hours.
- SEC Form ADV data file: firm assets, clients, services, fees and conflict answers for every SEC-registered adviser, loaded monthly (current file: ia100226.zip / ia09012026.csv, data as of 2026-10-02).
- Form ADV Part 2A brochures, Form CRS and Schedules A and B: downloaded from the SEC to explain strategy, fees, conflicts and ownership.
How we explain it
Facts such as dates, amounts and registrations are shown exactly as filed. Plain-English summaries are written by AI, Claude by Anthropic, which is instructed to report only what the documents say and to cite where. Each section shows its source and the date it was pulled.
What the record status means
"No disclosures on record," "Disclosures worth asking about" and "Serious events on record" describe what the public record contains, based on the number and type of disclosures. They are not ratings of a person's honesty or skill.
Not included yet
Brokerage-only records from FINRA BrokerCheck and state securities regulators' own databases are not included yet.
Enforcement and court search (Advanced)
Advanced reports also search the SEC Action Lookup for Individuals and federal district court dockets through CourtListener (Free Law Project). These sources don't use CRD numbers, so results are name matches. We set aside results with a different middle initial, show whether the state matches, and label every result as unconfirmed.
